Not your average team-building event; not your average commitment to community. On September 28th, members of both the Kirkland and Redmond offices spent a meaningful workday out on a new home construction site volunteering for Habitat for Humanity’s ‘Build Day’ program. This is the Kirkland office’s fifth annual Build Day with Habitat for Humanity, and second consecutive year working on the Sammamish site, just over 10 miles from our company headquarters.
Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King County is a community based low-income housing developer. Habitat builds houses affordably, using primarily volunteer labor, and sells them at cost, with no profit and interest to working families in Seattle and King County. Some of that volunteer labor is provided by companies, like Xtreme, who sponsor a “Build Day” by bringing employees out to the build site for a rewarding hands-on experience.
A group of 10 Xtreme volunteers spent the day working beside Habitat for Humanity’s staff at the Sammamish Cottage site. This neighborhood will be a cottage style development project, featuring front porches and open space concepts. A network of interior sidewalks will create a walk-able neighborhood that encourages community interaction and child safety.
Our Xtreme team helped with many of the beginning stages of the project, prepping the installation of lamp posts, and prepping the laying of cement stairs, sidewalks, and front porches.
With an estimated project completion date of 2018, the new community will include 10 new family homes that will provide safe, affordable, decent housing for up to 45 adults and children.
