Giving our time and effort to help others feels wonderful, but it feels even better when you work as a team. On September 29th, members of both the Kirkland and Redmond offices spent a meaningful workday out on a new home construction site volunteering for Habitat for Humanity’s ‘Build Day’ program. This is the Kirkland office’s fourth annual Build Day with Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King County is a community based low-income housing developer. Habitat builds houses affordably, using primarily volunteer labor, and sells them at cost, with no profit and interest to working families in Seattle and King County. Some of that volunteer labor is provided by companies, like Xtreme, who sponsor a “Build Day” by bringing employees out to the build site for a rewarding hands-on experience.
A group of 8 Xtreme volunteers spent the day working beside Habitat for Humanity’s staff at the Sammamish Cottage site. This site just broke ground earlier this month, and is still in the very early stages of construction. Our volunteers worked hard the entire day, cutting rebar, creating frames for cement pouring, and other jobs to help organize and set the job site up for success.
Once construction is completed in roughly over a year, the Sammamish development will provide 10 families with both an affordable home and an affordable mortgage in a new housing development.
