Earlier this week, the Portland Xtreme Team spent a meaningful day out of the office and on a construction site volunteering for Habitat for Humanity’s ‘Build Day’ program. Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East works with qualified, low-income families to help them realize the dream of owning their own home. Habitat builds houses affordably, using primarily volunteer labor, and sells the home at cost, with no profit and no interest to working families in the Portland area. Habitat’s ultimate goal is to transform lives and communities not just through housing itself, but by actively engaging the community to help improve neighborhoods themselves. A group of 14 Xtreme volunteers spent the day working beside Habitat for Humanity’s staff at the Helensview build site in the Cully neighborhood of Portland, OR. Our volunteers worked hard the entire day, teaming up on framework and building an attic box. After all construction is finished, the Helensview development will make homeownership possible for 21 hardworking, low-income families.
