Kirkland, WA - On October 25th – 27th the 2013 Kirkland Startup Weekend, a technology incubator focusing on big data will be held at the Google campus in Kirkland. This year’s theme is emerging opportunities with big data, and provides a vehicle for developers, designers and marketers to execute on their own big ideas around big data. At this is hands-on startup incubator ideas will develop from pitch to market ready in about 54 hours. The Kirkland Startup Weekend is one of over 478 global Startup Weekend events and is sponsored locally by Google, INRIX, Webtellect, Xtreme Consulting and the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce.
Bruce Wynn, Executive Director for the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce commented, saying, “I’m amazed at how rapidly Kirkland is evolving as a major tech hub. The transition from enterprise to innovation is in full swing and I expect that trend to accelerate. Based on this trend, it’s highly probable we’ll see another global tech leader start right here in Kirkland.”
Attendees come to Startup Weekends with different goals. Some come just to learn, others to network, and still others have the passion and drive to move a startup weekend venture direct to market with real revenues.
The 2013 Kirkland Startup Weekend at Google provides every opportunity to do just that because it supplies a structure, a team, the expertise, the labor, coaching and the motivation that comes from competing for the a First Place finish. And with top tech professionals as judges, the pressure is real and the competition can be intense.
The keynote speaker will be Bryan Mistele, President and Chief Executive Officer, INRIX. Professional coaches and mentors with experience at Google and Microsoft will provide team guidance, and startup veteran John Sechrest will facilitate the weekend. Judges for the weekend include Microsoft veteran and former AOL chief technology officer Alex Gounares, who once served as Bill Gates' top technical assistant, and is now working with startup Concurix, a still-forming company that plans to sell next-generation operating system software for big data centers. Additional judges include Dave Parker, Founder, Tech Entrepreneur & Board Member, VP of Product at UP Global; and Cathi Hatch, CEO and Founder of the ZINOSociety, a Seattle based angel investor forum.
This is Xtreme’s second time sponsoring a local Startup Weekend. The company’s first engagement with the organization was hosted by Facebook Seattle on April 5th – 7th, 2013. After attending, Xtreme was hooked and made plans to continue supporting the vibrant and thriving Startup Community.
